An early deficit proved too much for the Warriors to overcome as the South Winn boys’ basketball team (5-1, 3-1 UIC) suffered its first defeat 65-44 to North Fayette Valley (6-1, 4-1 UIC) Tuesday night.
The Warriors gave up 21 points in the first eight minutes to go down 21-12. By halftime, the TigerHawks had pulled ahead to a 36-21 lead. South Winn couldn’t match the offensive intensity of NFV in the second half as the home team rolled to the win.
With 24 points and six rebounds, sophomore Carson Streeter led the charge with Braiden Todd dropping in 10 points.
“Tough night for us. We had multiple kids out with injury/illness, so played some young guys against a good team, and it showed,” said Coach Derek Taylor. “I thought we gave great effort but we didn’t have enough bullets in the gun to keep up. It was good experience for our younger guys, and plenty of things on tape we can learn from to get better.”
South Winn will play on the home hardwood against Kee Friday, Dec. 15, followed by a road trip to Postville Tuesday, Dec. 19.
