The visiting Blue Devils set the pace in the first quarter to take a 13-10 lead. It was time for the Warriors to go to work in the second period, and they did. By halftime, South Winn was on top 32-24. Midway through the third, the Warriors were once again locked in a tight match before pulling away again to lead 51-35 with eight minutes to play.

“We are continuing our trend of slow starts, lately we found ourselves down at the first quarter and in a tight match halfway through the third quarter before we picked up our intensity level and pulled away late,” noted Coach Derek Taylor. “We did a better job taking care of the ball, hitting free throws, we just need to get off to quicker starts and not always have to dig ourselves out of holes.”
Carson Wenthold paved the way for the Warrior win with 31 points, five steals and five assists while Kole Hageman contributed 13 points.
South Winn’s game at New Hampton Monday (Jan. 23) will be reported on in the Thursday, Jan. 26, Public Opinion. The Warriors host Kee Tuesday, Jan. 24, and are at North Fayette Valley Friday, Jan. 27.
