South Winn linksters fall to TigerHawks

By Becky Walz,

It was back to work on the links for the South Winn golf teams Monday as the Warriors hosted North Fayette Valley at the South Winn Golf and Country Club in Calmar.
At the end of the meet, it was the TigerHawks coming out on top in both girls’ and boys’ action. The NFV boys bested SW 182 to 204, while the girls were defeated 223 to 254.
“The weather finally cooperated for us, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that good results will follow. The whole team struggled today, but I think it’s just an outlier. We’ve been trending up and playing better with every meet all season, nobody should be too concerned about one subpar performance. We’re halfway through the season, and I still like where we are and how we’re playing,” said SW boys’ coach Michael Wenthold.
Medalist of the dual meet was NFV’s Dane Schott who fired a 39, Andrew Schmitt was runner-up with a 45.
Shooting a team low 48 was sophomore Carson Wenthold. Shaun Klimesh came through with a 51, with Jordan Baumler (52) and Brandon Frana (53) on his heels. Logan Baumler was right there as well with a 54, while Martin Horstman toured the course with a 60.
In girls’ action, NFV’s Rayne Everitt fashioned a 48 to earn medalist honors, while Warrior senior Sydney Becker carded a 52 as the runner-up.
Brooke Steffans toured the course for South Winn to the tune of a 59, while Katrina Hageman came in with a 67. Completing the Warrior scorecard with a 76 was Annie Ondrashek. Hannah Pahl was also swinging the clubs, ending the meet with an 83.
South Winn is at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette tonight (Thursday, April 29) versus West Central and hosts MFL MarMac Monday, May 3 at South Winn Golf and Country Club. The Warriors will be visiting Jackson Height Golf Course Tuesday, May 4, in a rescheduled event.
