By Becky Walz,
It was a dominating pitching performance by Keagen Streeter Wednesday as the South Winn baseball team (2-0, 0-0 UIC) squeezed by Waukon on the road, 3-2.
After scoring two runs in the first inning, the Warrior offense failed to plate another run until the sixth inning when Cael Kuboushek hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Briar Tigges in what proved to be the winning run. Streeter would retire the final eight batters he faced to secure the win.
“This was a great game for our guys to experience early in the season. The competitive situations got our guys locked in. While offensively, we couldn’t get much going, we can take away many positives and things to work from. I give Waukon a lot of credit for their level of play and how they go about playing the game,” said Coach Alex Smith.
Streeter, a sophomore, gave up two earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out 14 batters in his seven innings on the hill.
The SW offense had four hits in the contest by Ethan Luzum, Tigges, Jacob Herold and Dayten Ondrashek.
