Just four days removed from its last competition, the Decorah girls swim and dive team were back in the water Tuesday night, challenged by Cedar Rapids Kennedy. With a large yet young team, the Vikings put up a good effort but fell 113 to 64, while the JV lost 87 to 42.
In varsity action, Liz Bucksa won the lone gold, besting the 200-yard individual medley field with a time of 2:26.40. The freshman also earned an individual silver, stopping the clock at 57.84 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.
Several other events took second, including the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard free relay. Sydney Thompson, Avalea Burns, Isabella Sailor and Bucksa opened the night with a time of 2:04.89 in the 200-yard medley relay. Combining for a time of 1:55.46 in the 200-yard free relay were Bucksa, Sailor, Grace Baker and Lauren Luzum.
Individually, Sailor was second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:11.74. Burns was the silver medalist in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.62.
The Decorah swimmers are now off until Saturday, Sept. 23, when the Vikes return to Cedar Rapids Kennedy for an invite that kicks off at 9 a.m.
