After dropping a close non-conference game to New Hampton Monday, the South Winn boys’ basketball team (9-6, 8-3 UIC) got back on track Tuesday with a win over Kee High at home.

Oh, so close
The Warriors fell behind New Hampton (7-8, 3-4 NEIC) in the first quarter, 13-11, Monday night. The Chickasaws picked up the pace ever so slightly in the second for a 30-25 halftime lead. Looking to keep the game within reach, South Winn picked away at the lead in the third and came up just short of tying the game at the final break, 46-44. With the victory on the line, both teams were scrambling for control as they went basket-for-basket in the final quarter, leaving the Warriors with a sour taste in their mouths and the 60-58 loss.
“This was a bittersweet game, we got Keagen Streeter back in action for the first time since Christmas, he didn’t play many minutes but was effective when he was in,” said Coach Derek Taylor. “We played good ball all game and had the ball and was down one with a chance to win it at the end. It didn’t go our way.”
Carson Wenthold paced the Warriors with 17 points and three assists, while K. Streeter managed to contribute 12 points and six rebounds. Kole Hageman was also in double digits with 10 points and four steals.

Back to business
After dropping Monday’s non-conference contest, the Warriors were back at home against Kee High (3-12, 3-8 UIC) Tuesday night and recognized its senior athletes with a 55-40 win.
Both teams started out strong, tied at the end of the first 11-11. However, in the second eight-minute frame, the Warriors shut down the Hawks, keeping them from scoring and taking a 27-11 lead into the locker room. That second-quarter cushion was more than enough to help seal the deal as the Warriors held on in the second half for the win.
“While we played a slow first quarter, we bounced back and played our best defensive quarter of the year holding Kee to zero points in the second. Had a nice lead going into half time, put it in cruise control and just survived the second half,” said Coach Taylor.
   K. Streeter put in 14 points with four rebounds with freshman Braiden Todd also in double figures with 11 points. Hageman was right there with nine points and eight boards.
