Putting up its best effort against the league’s best, the South Winn girls’ basketball team (5-9, 3-8 UIC) was doubled up by MFL MarMac (10-4, 10-0 UIC) at home Tuesday, 52-25.
The Warriors fought to win the battle of the Bulldog press as MFL MarMac was firing on all cylinders in the first period to lead 21-2. By halftime, the Bulldogs had built a 36-11 lead. SW was unable to recover in the second half, despite keeping pace with the visitors to suffer the defeat.
“The girls fought hard, but we struggled to score the ball in the first half and got down in a big hole right away and it was hard to make any ground up. In the second half we got into our offense and were able to execute our sets a little better,” said Coach Justin Izer.
Morgan Kleve headed the offensive attack with eight points to go with three rebounds and two steals. Josie Tieskoetter put up five points and had five boards, while Janessa Zweibohmer also had five points.
The Lady Warriors are back on the court at home tonight (Thursday, Jan. 20) for a non-conference battle with Sumner-Fredericksburg at 6:15 p.m.
