SW golfers fall to Eagles

By Becky Walz,

It was a long week for the South Winn golf teams, completing their third meet of the week in four nights at Clayton Ridge Thursday.
The Warrior boys were narrowly defeated 198 to 196, while the girls fell 247 to 232.
Carving out a score of 43 on the par 36-course was SW’s Carson Wenthold as the boys’ medalist. Clayton Ridge’s Drake Ostrander was the runner-up with 46.
Shaun Klimesh fashioned a 50, while Jordan Baumler came through with a 52 on the course. Completing the Warriors’ scorecard with a 53 was senior Brandon Frana. Also on the course for SW were Martin Horstman (57) and Logan Baumler (62).
“Carson (Wenthold) was definitely a bright spot, winning medalist honors by going pretty low on a tough day. We’ll need him to continue to play well if we want to be in the mix to win a conference and sectional championship,” said boys’ coach Mike Wenthold.
In girls’ action, Kaile Zapf of Clayton Ridge claimed medalist honors with a 51. SW senior Sydney Becker was the runner-up, carding a 53.
Putting together a round of 64 was Ruthie Frana, while Katrina Hageman and Brooke Steffans fired 65s for the Warriors. Annie Ondrashek (74) and Hannah Pahl (78) were also swinging the clubs for South Winn.
“The scores and team energy really reflected how tired the girls were,” said girls’ coach Glenna Munuswamy.
