SW offense continues to struggle

By Becky Walz,

Offensive struggles continued for the South Winn softball team (9-15, 7-7 UIC) as it fell to Kee (12-15, 10-2) at home Monday, 13-0 and 15-6.
The Warriors were held scoreless in game one as baserunners were in short supply. SW mustered three hits by Morgan Kriener, Ruthie Frana and Liz Engelhardt. Taking the loss on the mound was Morgan Kleve in six innings of work. She gave up eight runs on four hits and struck out six. Pitching in relief was Abby Wagner.
Kee put up eight runs between the first and second innings before SW could get on the board. The Warriors strung some hits together in the fourth to plate three runs; however, the Hawks continued to hold a 11-6 at the end of five. Two runs in each the sixth and seventh frames by Kee put the game out of the Warriors’ reach.

Playoffs Tuesday
The Warriors wrapped up their UIC schedule with MFL MarMac in Calmar Wednesday and will conclude the regular portion of the season at New Hampton Friday, July 2, at 5:30 p.m., in a junior varsity/varsity doubleheader. The postseason will open Tuesday, July 6, as South Winn hosts Postville at 7 p.m.
