SW spikers collect final UIC win

By Becky Walz,

The South Winn volleyball team (10-19, 4-4 UIC) finished out the regular season with a UIC conference win over Postville (1-19, 1-5 UIC) on Thursday evening. Set scores for the UIC finale were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-18.
The Warriors had a great offensive night with 40 team kills and only eight errors. Katrina Hageman and Morgan Kleve paced the way with nine kills each. Ali Heying dished out 32 assists and Eryn Luzum had 18 digs on the night. Luzum was also 15-for-16 serving with a team-high four aces.
“Postville is a scrappy team that does a great job keeping the ball alive, and I really liked how we continued to rally and attack offensively throughout the match. We were a bit inconsistent in some facets at times, but overall, I think our two-match winning streak will give us some good momentum heading into the postseason. One of our goals was to be highly competitive in conference play this year. Three of our four losses were in five sets, and we know just how close we were to contending for a conference title,” said Coach Alex Smith.
