SW spikers record three-set victory

By Becky Walz,

The South Winn volleyball team (8-18, 2-3 UIC) picked up a straight set conference victory on Senior Night hosting Kee (1-15, 0-5 UIC) Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-21, 25-8 and 25-12.
Nine players tallied kills on offense, led by senior Janessa Zweibahmer with 10. Ali Heying dished out 26 assists and Eryn Luzum led the way with eight digs. Serving was a key part of the win with the Warriors putting up 24 aces on the evening. Katrina Hageman had seven aces followed by Ali Heying with six.
“After being off from playing for a week, it was nice to have a home match and pick up the win while celebrating our seven seniors. We did a great job of serving aggressively and consistent and spread the ball around well to our hitters. We hope to build off this with two final home matches coming up,” said Coach Alex Smith.

South Winn hosts MFL MarMac Thursday, Oct. 7, in a UIC contest. Next week, the Warriors will welcome West Central to Calmar for their final home game Monday, Oct. 11, before wrapping up the season at Postville Thursday, Oct. 14.
