The South Winn softball team (11-15, 9-7 UIC) got back on track Wednesday, sweeping MFL MarMac (3-27, 3-11 UIC) on senior night, 7-6 and 6-2.
In game one, the Warriors struck for a run early, getting one in the first inning. They added two in the second and fourth frames, respectively and finished with single tallies in the fifth and sixth stanzas.
Pitcher Morgan Kleve spread out eight hits throughout the seven innings with five strikeouts for the win.
South Winn utilized nine hits and three walks to do their damage. Alison Heying smashed out a triple and drove in two runs, while Janessa Zweibahmer connected for a double.
In between games, the Warriors celebrated their three seniors — Mary Frana, Emma Houdek and Breanna Dvorak. The night cap went to SW as the Warriors scored all six of their runs in the third frame on five hits and a hit batter.
Kleve picked up her second victory of the night in the pitcher’s circle, fanning eight and giving up four hits.
The Warriors once again had nine hits in the contest, with Morgan Kriener and Ruthie Frana each providing two. Houdek drove in two runs with her single.
Postseason starts Tuesday
The Warriors will host Postville Tuesday, July 6, for first-round Class 2A Region 6 action at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to play North Linn in Troy Mills, Wednesday, July 7, in the regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m.
