SW takes one from Bulldogs

The South Winn baseball team (19-9, 15-2 UIC) took on MFL MarMac (15-11, 11-6 UIC) in a UIC doubleheader at home Monday evening and came away with a split.
Game one was a pitchers dual that extended to extra innings. Keagen Streeter tossed seven scoreless innings for the Warriors, while Austin Evenson tossed a complete game eight inning shutout for the Bulldogs. Jamie Kuennen suffered the loss in relief, giving up three unearned runs in the eighth inning. The Warriors had five hits in the game, including a triple by freshman Carson Streeter, but couldn’t come up with a big hit to get a run.
In game two, the Warriors put up a big third inning, scoring six runs paving the way for the victory. Jamie Kuennen was efficient on the mound tossing seven strong innings while striking out seven and not allowing a walk.
South Winn pounded out six singles, with Kuennen helping his own cause with a pair of hits and one RBI. K. Streeter, Brody Tieskoetter, Kole Hageman and Kaden Bullerman also connected for one apiece.
“I give a lot of credit to the MFL pitchers and their defense for putting together a very solid game,” said Coach Alex Smith. “I was pleased with how our guys responded and the energy and focus they played with in the second game. Our defense played great and our pitching was outstanding the entire evening.”
The Warriors have two more regular season games this week, as South Winn travels to Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday, June 29, and hosts Charles City Friday, June 30. Both non-conference matchups are JV/varsity twinbills that throw out the first pitch at 5 p.m.
