Swimmers dive into a new season

To kick off the winter season, the Decorah boys swim team traveled the Cedar Valley to compete in a double dual meet against Linn-Mar and Cedar Falls Tuesday night.
The Vikings fell to Linn-Mar 127-43 and Cedar Falls 103-67.
“This was our first meet of the season and it showed us a lot of where we stand and what needs to be worked on,” said Coach Laura Storlie. “We had some good swims and improvements from last year, as well as a lot of weakness to work on in the coming weeks.
In the varsity meet, the Vikings picked up two silvers and one bronze. 
Drew Chamberlain, Isaac Knaack, Gareth Sweet and Simon Kutz kicked off the night with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay. The quartet posted a time of 1:46.90. Knaack added the other silver medal finish as an individual in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:06.72. Claiming third in the 100 back was Chamberlain in 57.43 seconds.
The Vikings are back in the water Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Newton invitational at 10 a.m.
