Swimmers go 1-1 in double dual at Cedar Falls

By Becky Walz,

Back in the water Tuesday, the Decorah girls’ swim and dive team competed in a double dual with Cedar Falls and Dubuque Hempstead in Cedar Falls. In the end the Vikes bested Hempstead, 121-64 and fell to the host Tigers 122-64.
“The girls were tired last night in the pool, and they swam very well under the conditions they faced.  I was happy with how they performed in and out of the pool last night.  Now we get some time off and get in some good conditioning in the pool,” said Coach Allie Bachelder.
The Vikings came home with two golds, six silvers and four bronze.
The 400 free relay of Paige Werner, Emily Voyna, Maeley Nefzger and Julia Alberts touched the wall first in 3:59.67. In the diving competition, Decorah’s Brinley Krivachek took the top spot with 218.65 points, with teammate Kailyn O’Gara claiming silver with 183.75 points.
Coming through with the second-best times was Werner in the 50 free (26.36), Voyna in the 100 fly (1:04.78), Alberts in the 100 free (57.92), Kovarik in the 100 breast (1:16.87) and the 200 free relay of Voyna, Kovarik, Werner and Alberts in 1:48.17.
