While the temperatures were frigid outside, the Warrior offense was on fire Friday night, as the South Winn boys’ basketball team (9-4, 8-2 UIC) lit up the nets to defeat Kee High (6-8, 5-5 UIC) on the road, 72-48.
“I was proud of our guys and how we played, being that we didn’t practice the day before due to the snow storm and not having school both Thursday and Friday. But we came out focused, and worked hard for good, high-quality shots on offense. We shot well, and defensively we did enough to force tough shots,” said Coach Blake Moen.
South Winn held the Hawks to eight points in the first quarter, rolling out to a 17-8 advantage after the first period. By halftime, the Warrior lead had ballooned to 39-22. The Red and White pressure was too much for Kee to handle in the third quarter. The Hawks were only allowed three points, as SW led 58-25 with eight minutes to play.
Ten Warriors had at least two points, led by Trey Kriener lighting up the scoreboard for 28 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Jacob Herold was also in double figures with 11 points to go with six rebounds. Sophomore Carson Wenthold was active on the floor with eight points, three boards, two assists and three steals.
The Warriors will play at Clayton Ridge Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m., and wrap up the season with a non-conference game at Waukon Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
