SW’s Wagner breaks tape at Ed-Co; TV’s Nieman 10th

Things couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for the South Winn cross country teams, as the Warriors, along with Turkey Valley competed at the annual Ed-Co invite Tuesday night.
The defending Class 1A champion Lady Warriors won the invite with 52 points, while the SW boys finished fourth with 136 points. The Trojans have just two girls and two boys competing this season and were unable to build a team score.

SW girls take gold
  The girls edged Beckman with 59 points. The Warriors had an average time of 22:56 on the 5K course and a spread of 3:41.6.
  Senior Billie Wagner was the overall champion. She clocked in at 20:17.40. Josie Tieskoetter was the second Warrior to cross the finish line in 22:40.52, good for eighth place. Anna Dietzenbach had a time of 23:33.46, earning 14th place. Karissa Wenthold and Megan Hageman finished together in 17th and 18th places, respectively. Wenthold, a sophomore, stopped the clock at 23:58.92, while Hageman posted a time of 23:58.92, to conclude the scoring.

Warriors fourth
  Waterloo West was the varsity boys team champion, posting an average time of 18:27 and a score of 33. The Warriors had an average time of 20:19, with a spread of 1:45.6.
   
Hunter Wagner was the first South Winn harrier to cross the finish line with a time of 19:32.47, in 18th place. Sophomore John Donovan was 21st in 19:45.62. Touring the course in 20:05.27 was Omar Flores, good for 24th. Bo Wansgness posted a time of 20:49.81 to claim 40th place with Abe Conway rounding out the team score in 47th. Conway’s time was 21:18.00.

TV’s Nieman top 10
  In his first cross country competition, Turkey Valley junior Russell Nieman came home 10th in 18:45.32. The Trojans’ other male runner, Bode Balk, toured the course in 22:12.04, earning 65th.
  Two freshman females also competed with Morgan Wenthold leading the way in 12th place in a time of 23:29.96. Haylee Hanson finished 75th in 29:19.20.
