Teams battle tested in Jackson Junction

By Becky Walz,

Down to the wire.
Playing fast-paced basketball, the Turkey Valley boys (1-1, 1-0 UIC) outlasted the visiting South Winn Warriors (0-1, 0-1 UIC) Tuesday night in Jackson Junction, 52-51.
Scrambling up and down the court, both teams put up a solid first eight minutes with South Winn leading 13-11. The Trojans went to work in the second period, spearheaded by back-to-back treys by Oliver Schmitt. The treys propelled TV out to a 27-22 halftime lead. Both squads continued to play hard in the third with the Warriors cutting the Trojan lead to one, 36-35. The game came down to the final shot taken by South Winn senior Carson Wenthold that was just shy of the three-point line, which would have tied the game and sent it into overtime. Instead, it was a two-pointer, leaving a sour taste in the Warriors’ mouth at the loss.
