Ten golds lead Vikes to win at MFL

The Decorah boys’ track team took the title at the MFL MarMac invite Monday night.
The Vikes secured 10 gold medals and 191 points to take the crown.

Shining bright
Among Decorah’s victories was the double gold won by Joseph Hjelle in the shot put (44’5”) and discus (145’11”). Haywood Stowe broke the tape in the 200-meter dash in 23.06 seconds. Completing two laps around the track in 2:08.20 it was Bennett Schutte winning gold, while Daniel See completed the 3200-meter run in 12:10.0 for the win. Rounding out the individual champs was Kody Bodensteiner. He bested the 400-meter hurdle field in 1:01.11 for the win.
Four relays won titles. In the 4×800, it was Cael Luzum, August Witt, Brayden Hartl and Brady Hogan racing to victory in 8:57.90. Hartl, Charlie Robinson, Dakota Johnson and Landen Marlow won the 4×200 relay in 1:40.46. It was Addae Whitsitt, Luzum, Robinson and Ben Wymer breaking the tape in the 4×100 relay. The quartet posted the fastest time of 45.86 seconds. Also victorious was the 4×400 team of Corbyn Palmer, Jacob Pipho, Kaiden Quandahl and Witt in 3:44.05.

The Vikings host the Northeast Iowa Conference meet today, Thursday, May 6, at 5 p.m.
