Three athletes from the Decorah girls’ basketball team were named to the Northeast Iowa Conference all-league basketball team.
Juniors Bryar Duwe and Haley Gossman are both second-time honorees, while sophomore Yazmeen Whitsitt notched her first nod.
Dynamic duo
Duwe and Whitsitt were recognized on the first team.
In her junior campaign, Duwe led the team with 19.5 points per game, hitting 51.4 percent from the field and 43.2 percent from three-point range. She pulled down 57 total rebounds in NEIC action, averaging 5.7 a game. In addition, she was second in steals with 30 and had 14 assists.
Whitsitt was second on the squad in scoring with 19.0 a night. She connected on 46.7 from the field and 49.3 percent from three-point land, while going 83.9 percent from the free throw line. She contributed 2.9 rebounds a game with a total of 29 boards to go with 26 steals and a team-high 17 assists.
Gossman on second team
An honorable mention selection a year ago, Gossman moved up to the second team. She topped the Vikings in steals with 32. The junior averaged 8.6 points a night, hitting 54 percent from the field. Gossman was third in rebounding for the squad, averaging 5.1 rebounds with a total of 41 boards for the NEIC portion of the season. She also had 10 blocks.
