Three wins for SW at UIC duals

In the wake of the long holiday break, the South Winn boys’ wrestling team was back in action Thursday and Saturday.

UIC duals
Teams in the Upper Iowa Conference completed the first half of the team dual competition Thursday at North Fayette Valley with the Warriors securing three wins.
South Winn first picked up a 72-12 win over Central Elkader with just five matches taking place against the small squad. Gavin Thuente (106), Aiden Feickert (113) and Collin Holm (144) all picked up falls with nine other Warrior grapplers receiving forfeits.
Wrestling Tripoli next, the Warriors had just three matches as they shut out the Panthers, 84-0. Pinning their opponents were Parker Timp (215), Feickert (113) and Landen Schnuelle (150), with all others collecting forfeits.
It was a close match between South Winn and MFL MarMac, with the Bulldogs coming out on top 48-36. Timp (215), Thuente (106), Feickert (113) and Bo Wangsness (126) all threw their opponents, while Holm (144) and Eli Higgins took forfeits.
Against Postville, it was a 70-9 win for the Warriors with five falls, a decision and six forfeits. Turning opponents for the pin were Thuente (113), Lukas Weiss (138), Brady Ohrt (157) and Timp (215). At 190 pounds, Ray Lienau won a 10-2 major decision.

Fifth at Tripoli
Rounding up 124.5 points, the Warriors finished fifth Saturday at the 57th annual Tripoli invitational. Nashua-Plainfield took home the team title with 277 points, followed by Wapsie Valley with 207.
South Winn had two individuals in the finals, finishing runner-up. Holm suffered his first loss in his senior campaign in the finals against Denver’s Boden White by a 4-2 decision. In his only other match of the day, Holm pinned Devon Blanchard of Nashua-Plainfield in 2:48 in the semifinal.
Timp was also in the championship bout. In the quarterfinal, the Warrior senior took 28 seconds to pin Greyson Miller of Wapsie Valley and secured a 10-6 decision in the semifinal against Grant Henderson of Sumner-Fredericksburg. Nashua-Plainfield’s Aiden Sullivan edged Timp in the final by a 8-5 decision for the 215-pound title.
Finishing with bronze were Feickert (113), Schnuelle (150) and Kuboushek (165).
