Qualifying process
In Class 1A, the champion entry for each event from every state qualifying site automatically advance to the state meet. In addition, the next best 14 times/distances also advance, making it 24 entries per event.

SW girls state-bound
With a host of events taking the track, the Warrior girls are heavy in the distance events.
Billie Wagner will make her second appearance at state. She qualified as the winner of the 3000-meter run in 11:44.29, and enters the state meet as the eighth seed. The junior also earned a chance to compete at state in the 1500-meter run and is seeded 14th with her time of 5:18.32.
Making her first career appearance at Drake will be Abby Wagner in the high jump. The freshman cleared the bar at 5 feet 1 inch for the runner-up spot. She has earned the eighth seed during her inaugural trip to state.
Eryn Sabelka will also step on to the Blue Oval as an individual in the 800-meter run as the fourth seed. She finished third Thursday in 2:26.64.
Three Warrior relays qualified for state earning the nod based on time.
With a time of 10:27.07, the 4×800 relay of B. Wagner, Megan Hageman, Josie Tieskoetter and Sabelka earned a fourth seed.
Morgan Kriener and Josie Tollefsrud will join Tieskoetter and Sabelka on the track in the distance medley relay on Friday. With a time of 4:28.51, the are seeded 10th in Class 1A.
The 4×400 relay will take the track Friday afternoon. Sabelka, Tieskoetter, Tollefsrud and Kriener garnered fifth in 4:25.27. However, that time gives them the 23rd seed at state.

Representing the Warrior boys
The South Winn boys will have five events at Drake, all but one earning nods based on time/distance.
Isaiah Kruckman will be the first event on the track Thursday morning in the 3200-meter run after he edged West Central’s runner at the line at the qualifier. His time of 10:20.40 gives the senior the third seed. He will also be on the track in the 1600-meter Saturday. His second-place time of 4:46.58 is the 15th fastest in Class 1A.
Making his second appearance on the Blue Oval, Sam Conway’s time of 11.62 seconds in the 100-meter dash earned him a spot in Thursday’s prelims as the 22nd seed.
Ethan Timp is set to throw the shot put Thursday morning as the 17th seeded after finishing fifth with a heave of 46 feet 3.75 inches.
Entering the state meet as the 22nd seed is the 4×100 relay of Keagen Streeter, Evan Bushman, Conway and Nick Holien. Their seed time is 45.39 seconds.

Lady Trojan qualifiers
“We had a good night on Thursday. Every relay and just about all of our individual events hit a personal best. I was hoping we could’ve snuck in with another relay or two but times were fast this year. We hit our best when it mattered that’s all you can ask for as a coach,” said TV girls’ coach Dalton Hackman.
There will be 10 events on the track at Drake Stadium this week for the Turkey Valley boys’ and girls’ track teams.
One of the most versatile runners the Trojans have probably ever had, senior Jalyssa Blazek won the 100-meter dash, 800-meter and 1500-meter runs. Her 800-meter run time of 2:21.52 and 1500-meter time of 4:54.5 have Blazek as the top seed in Class 1A. In addition, the 1500-meter time crushed the school record that was held by Elizabeth Hageman at 5:01.18 previously set in 2001. The 800-meter record was set by Blazek last year at the state meet which she will be looking to break one more time this weekend. Blazek enters the 100-meter dash prelims at state as the 12th seed.
Jacqlyn Schmitt is the only other individual who will be competing at state. The junior’s throw of 101 feet 5 inches automatically punched her ticket for state and a 23rd seed.
“Jacqlyn has been working crazy hard all year and progressively getting better each meet. This progression and drive paid off on Thursday as she took matters into her own hands and won the district in the discus with a new best 101’5”. This is what coaching is all about. Seeing Jac go from a decent thrower the last two years to a state qualifier has been incredible to watch, couldn’t have happened to a better kid,” Coach Hackman.
The Lady Trojans’ distance medley relay dropped 10 seconds at the qualifying meet and gave them a seventh seed for Friday’s race. Their seed time was 4:26.76.

To the big time
The Turkey Valley boys have three relays competing at state.
Russell Nieman, Ryan Franzen, Noah Hanson and Dylan Reicks broke the tape in the 4×800 for the automatic qualifying spot in 8:30.55 and is seeded third in Class 1A.
Based on time the distance medley quartet of Hanson, Marcus Herold, Chase Hayek and Reicks qualified for state. They had a time of 3:47.23, good for fourth. They are seeded 22nd.
Hayek, Franzen, Hanson and Reicks posted a time of 3:32.07 in the 4×400. That put them in third last week and 9th headed to state.
