Trojan baseball finishes week 1-1

It was a split end to the week for the Turkey Valley baseball team (3-6, 2-3 UIC) as the Trojans fell to Wapsie Valley and defeated Postville. Saturday’s non-conference contest with Oelwein was rained out.

It was a split end to the week for the Turkey Valley baseball team (3-6, 2-3 UIC) as the Trojans fell to Wapsie Valley and defeated Postville. Saturday’s non-conference contest with Oelwein was rained out.

Road game
Turkey Valley fell behind Wapsie Valley (3-6) early and couldn’t recover from the deficit Wednesday, falling 11-6.
Seven runs in the first three frames by the Warriors was too much for the Trojans to overcome despite a big five-run fourth frame by the Red and White. TV tagged on a run in the sixth; however, the game continued to go Wapsie Valley’s way as they added four runs in the final innings.
Russell Nieman took the loss on the hill while Chase Hayek and Caleb Kurtenbach threw in relief.
The Trojans tagged the ball for seven hits with Hayek coming away with three singles and drove in two runs. Dylan Reicks, Carson Busta, Noah Hanson and Calvin Bodensteiner also had singles for Turkey Valley.

Topping the Pirates
Two innings where the Trojans batted through the line-up to tally big numbers and 10 errors by Postville (0-6, 0-6 UIC), lifted Turkey Valley over the Pirates 21-5 Thursday on the road in four innings.
It took a little while to get firing on all cylinders as TV put up one run in the first inning and three in the second to lead 4-3. The bats ignited in the third with seven runs for the Trojans who then posted 10 runs in the fourth.
The win went to Carson Busta who struck out three.
Turkey Valley had 11 hits in the game including doubles by Busta, Hayek and Brennan Drilling. Driving in four runs was Drilling, while Busta and Hayek had three apiece.
