After picking up a crucial win earlier in the week, the Turkey Valley girls’ basketball team claimed the second spot in the Upper Iowa Conference with two more victories Thursday and Friday. The Trojans posted a 14-2 UIC record and is currently 16-5 overall.
Make-up game
After getting cancelled twice because of the weather, the Trojans were finally able to host Clayton Ridge (5-15, 4-10 UIC) Thursday night, coming away with a 42-28.
Both teams began in a sluggish manner with TV taking a 9-4 lead into the second period. Keeping the Eagles off the board in the final five minutes of the first frame and the first two of the second, the Trojans began to pull away for a 20-13 advantage at the break. That lead grew to 33-17 with eight minutes to play.
Aubrey Hoffert paced the Trojans with 12 points with Jacqlyn Schmitt putting in 11. Coming off the bench, freshman Annika Bodensteiner provided another six.

UIC finale
Playing game three in four days, the TV girls managed to hold off Postville (2-19, 1-15 UIC) on the road, 49-42, Friday night.
TV went out front early with a 14-10 lead in the first before the Pirates battled back to within one at the half, 19-18. In the third, the Trojans picked up their offense and carried a 34-28 advantage into the final period and survived for the victory.
Hoffert and Schmitt each put in 16 points to lead the Trojan effort. Schmitt had the double-double with 14 rebounds as well, while Hoffert provided four steals. Fellow senior Alison Leibold had seven points. Second in rebounding was freshman Addison Steinlage.
