It was a good couple of nights to be Turkey Valley volleyball co-coaches Tammy Vrzak and Jackie Novotny, as the Trojans (15-15, 5-2 UIC) defeated Postville and Kee earlier this week.
Make-up game
Monday night, the Trojans welcomed Postville (1-17, 1-5 UIC) for a make-up game from Thursday, Oct. 7, that was postponed. TV made easy work of the Pirates, defeating Postville 25-15, 25-19 and 25-10.
“We had a good night against the Pirates and the girls played well as a team,” said Coaches Vrzak and Novotny. “It was our senior night and all six seniors saw time on the floor. This group of girls are playing right where we need them to be before tournament play.”
Statistically, the Trojans had a good night with 39 kills, 104 attack attempts, 38 assists, 61 digs, two blocks and 58-for-74 serving night with 10 ace serves.
Individually, Josie Weber served 10-for-10, along with 33 assists, nine digs and three kills. Adriana Tiedt pounded 14 kills and had 30 attack attempts to go with eight digs. Jacqlyn Schmitt and Olivia Drilling each had seven kills, while Halle Weber came away with 17 digs.

On the go
The Trojans took the long trek to Lansing Tuesday night and came home with a 3-0 win over Kee (1-17, 0-7 UIC). Set scores were 25-12, 25-6 and 25-12.
“Olivia Maklenburg was hot on the serving line and the girls did a fantastic job of playing together and working the ball around, so everyone got to hit,” said the co-coaches.
At the net, Tiedt struck for eight kills to accompany 10 digs. Brianna Busta and Drilling provided five kills apiece, while J. Weber handed out 22 assists and went 12-for-12 at the service stripe. Defensively, H. Weber grabbed 16 digs. Serving 17-for-20 with two aces was Kourtney Schmidt with Maklenburg successful on 14-for-17 with two ace serves.

Ready to roll
Turkey Valley will host the Class 1A Region 5 first round game Monday, Oct. 18, versus Kee at 7 p.m., as the Trojans begin the road to state. A Trojan win puts Turkey Valley in the regional quarterfinal Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. They will face the winner of the Nashua-Plainfield and Riceville match.
