Led by the Kurtenbachs
Senior Garrett Kurtenbach was the runner-up medalist with a 46. The veteran senior bounced back after a tough three opening holes and played the last six holes three over par.
“It was good to see that Garrett was able to hit more fairways in regulation tonight after an off-night on Tuesday. I look for him to fine tune his game as the season continues in earnest,” noted Coach John Reicks.
Sophomore Caleb Kurtenbach carded his third straight 49 of the season, while senior Rolin Schmitt (59) had a good round as well. Braylen Byrne and Lance Schmitt both tallied even 60’s, while a pair of “rookies” in junior Bode Balk (63) and freshman Calen Franzen (67) rounded out the Trojan roster.
“I like the consistency of Caleb (Kurtenbach) and he doesn’t get rattled too easily. Now we just need him to start bringing his score down a little at a time,” added Coach Reicks. “We just need to continue to work on a few little things that I think will pay off big for him as the season progresses.”

Franzen runner-up
The Lady Trojans dropped a narrow seven-stroke margin to UIC perennial power NFV.
Trojan Tess Franzen fired a solid 57 to finish as the runner-up medalist. Hole No 4, the long par five, played especially tough into the wind and cost the senior a couple of strokes. Meanwhile, the pesky pond on Hole No. 1 gobbled up few TV errant tee shots.
Sophomore Mariah Throndson (63) and freshmen Morgan Vsetecka (69) and Kaitlyn Schroeder (69) also counted for the Trojans. Junior Abby Schmitt made her season debut with a 78 and freshman Sofia Rivera carded an 83.
“With four of the six girls being newcomers to the sport, and Mother Nature wielding an iron fist, I am pleased with how the season has started. The girls so far have done a good job with the limited practice time we have had,” concluded Coach Reicks.

Busy week
Turkey Valley has an active week ahead as the hosted MFL MarMac Monday, then play Crestwood Tuesday, April 26, and at Central Elkader Thursday, April 28. All duals are slated to tee off at 4 p.m.
