Trojans ambush Rockford Warriors, 60-12

By Becky Walz,

A huge rushing game propelled the Turkey Valley football team (3-0, 1-0) to a 60-12 victory over Rockford (1-2, 1-1) Friday night in Rockford.
The Trojans picked up 405 yards rushing on the night.
“We played very well with the Trojan offensive and defensive lines controlling the line of scrimmage all night. The offensive interior line of Collin Kleppe, Treyton Hulbert and Austin Kuehner let our backs get five yards untouched all game long. The running backs (Marcus Herold, Dylan Reicks and Carson Busta) then added tough yards after contact,” said Coach Mark Scott. “We did not throw much but when we did Noah executed the passes well going 4-for-5 with three touchdowns.”

All those scores
The Red and White scored nine touchdowns Friday night. In the first quarter, TV fans saw three different Trojans cross the goal line. The first came on a one-yard burst by Carson Busta, with Dylan Reicks and Marcus Herold all making their way to the end zone in the first period.
In the second quarter, Noah Hanson connected with Calvin Bodensteiner for the Trojans’ fourth score of the night before TV allowed Rockford its first tally of the game. Herold blasted through the lines to score again. Then it was Hanson going back to the air again, hitting senior Garrett Kurtenbach twice for touchdowns giving the Trojans a 48-6 halftime lead.
Turkey Valley scored two more times in the second half — a Herold 1-yard rush and a 5-yard score by sophomore Oliver Schmitt.
“On defense we dominated the Rockford offense. Garrett Kurtenbach, Robert Hanson and Ryan Franzen were in the backfield making plays all night, while Calvin Bodensteiner did a great job breaking up passes,” noted Coach Scott. “It was a cleanly played game with no turnovers by either team and very few penalties.”

Final look
The Trojans rushed for 405 yards, with 132 coming for Herold. With 18 carries, he averaged 7.8 yards a touch. Reicks had 92 yards while Schmitt had 72.
On defense, Ryan Franzen had three solo stops and five assisted tackles. G. Kurtenbach, Reicks and Bodensteiner all had four solo tackles.

Back at home
After having been on the road the last two weeks, the Trojans will be back on their home field Friday, Sept. 17, versus Riceville at 7 p.m.
