Opening the postseason, the Turkey Valley softball team (20-10) to battle Nashua-Plainfield (7-19). It took two strong offensive innings for the Trojans to slide by the Huskies, 9-4.
TV started things strong with a hit to deep centerfield by Kara Reicks, who made it all the way to third on the misplayed ball. The hitting was contagious as the Trojans rattled off five runs on four hits and several wild pitches to take a commanding lead early.
Through the second, third, fourth and fifth frames, TV was limited to baserunners as Nashua-Plainfield’s Breanna Hackman sailed the ball over the outfield fence in the third. Huskie junior Brynn Wright also collected a bomb over the fence in the fifth frame to narrow the Trojans’ advantage to 5-2.
Things came together once again in the sixth for the Trojans as Emma Hanson smashed the ball out to centerfield. TV threatened to have a big inning when Aleah Hackman was walked to load the bases with one out. A two-RBI single by Jalyssa Blazek pushed the grounder back to the pitcher by Olivia Snyder turned into a run after Hackman managed to get herself out of a pickle between third and home plate, diving to score the Trojans’ fourth run of the
inning.
