By Becky Walz,

It was a busy night on the oval for the Turkey Valley track teams Tuesday as the Trojans competed at Nashua-Plainfield, bringing home a total of five gold medals.
At the end of the night, Northwood-Kensett took the girls’ team title with 112 points with Turkey Valley bringing home sixth with 58 points. In the boys’ team race, it was the host, Nashua-Plainfield, reigning supreme with 161 points and the Trojans finishing with 49 points in seventh place.

Boys results
Three relays took the title for the Trojans. Chase Hayek, Troy Schmitt, Noah Hanson and Ryan Franzen started the night with the sprint medley gold with a winning time of 1:41.09. Later, that same quartet broke the tape in the 4×200 with a time of 1:36.44 and capped off the night as champions of the 4×100 relay. That relay posted a time of 46.35 seconds.
A trio of events also took home bronze including Russell Nieman in the 1600-meter run. The junior had a time of 5:14.63. Taking third in the distance medley relay in 4:05.20 were T. Schmitt, JD Kruse, Burke Busta and Nieman. Hayek, Franzen, B. Busta and Hanson also took third in the 4×400 in 3:41.49.

Girls highpoints
Highlighting the night for the girls were two gold-medal performances. In the 100-meter dash, Morgan Wenthold posted a winning time of 13.42 seconds. She ended the night as the anchor of the 4×100 relay which broke the tape in 53.86 seconds. Wenthold also garnered a silver in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet 1.25 inches. Joining forces with Wenthold in the relay were Clare Courtney, Olivia Snyder and Jenna Throndson. That same quartet teamed up in the 4×200 for silver in 1:56.96. Jacqlyn Schmitt garnered a bronze in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet 9.5 inches to round out top-three finishes for the Trojans.
“Our 4×200 and 4×100 threw down some excellent times and I’m excited to see where these may go. Clare Courtney is back from injury and ran nicely tonight helping us compete in multiple relays. Jenna Throndson has been a pleasant surprise thus far and Olivia Snyder’s leadership has been excellent. Jacqlyn Schmitt is seeing success again in her field events and is looking to have another big year. Lots of positives and lots of learning still to go with a big freshman crew that is improving every day,” said coach Dalton Hackman.
