The Turkey Valley volleyball team (13-15, 3-2 UIC) competed in its final tournament of the season Saturday in Adams, Minn., going 3-3 on the day to finish third.
“The girls played well and we were able to play some Minnesota teams that we have never seen before. The girls are playing together very well which is what we want before heading into tournament play,” said co-coaches Tammy Vrzak and Jackie Novotny.
The Trojans opened the day with a loss to Mabel-Canton by sets of 11-21 and 18-21, before rebounding for three straight wins over Southland by sets of 21-7 and 21-10, Clarksville by sets of 21-7 and 21-16 and Glenville-Emmons by sets of 21-10 and 21-13. TV ended the tournament with losses to Mabel-Canton by sets of 13-21 and 21-23 and Kingsland by sets of 11-21 and 18-21.
For the day, the Trojans connected for 91 kills on 344 attack attempts, 228 digs, 93 assists and 13 blocks. As a team, TV served 165-for-208 with 26 aces.
Leading the day at the net with 32 kills was Adriana Tiedt, while Brianna Busta hammered out 13 kills, Jacqlyn Schmitt pounded out 11 kills and Kourtney Schmidt had nine kills. Josie Weber handed out 80 of the team’s assists. Leading the defense were Halle Weber with 57 digs, while Clare had a solid day in the back row with 53 digs.
One final week
After Thursday’s home match versus Postville was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, the Trojans host the Pirates Monday. Tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 12), Turkey Valley will trek to Lansing to battle Kee and will wrap up the regular season at Central Thursday, Oct. 14.
