Trojans earn second-straight UIC title

With the regular conference season behind them, the Turkey Valley softball team (18-10, 14-2) clinched the UIC title for the second year in a row after blanking Postville (0-14, 0-14 UIC) at home Wednesday night.
The Trojans put together an onslaught of offense, winning both contests 11-0 in five innings.
TV opened the night with eight runs in the first inning of game one, batting through the order early. The Trojans tacked on a run in the second and two in the third to close out the game in five frames.
Throwing a no-hitter and fanning four batters for the win was senior Aleah Hackman. 
It was a 13-hit affair, with four Trojans rapping out doubles — Kara Reicks, Jalyssa Blazek, Olivia Drilling and Jacqlyn Schmitt. Drilling also drove in three runs for TV. Josie Weber connected for three hits and had two RBI, while Reicks was 3-for-4 at the plate with two stolen bases. Aubrey Hoffert also had two hits.
Game two was much of the same in the five innings, with TV scoring in four of them. 
J. Weber rung up nine batters and allowed just one hit in the contest for the win. The junior helped her own cause with a three-run homer and sac fly for four RBI. Hailey Elsbernd got in on the offensive attack with two hits, including a triple and drove in a run. Reicks provided a double and single, while Olivia Snyder pounded out a trio of singles. Also in the book with hits were Sophia Adams, Olivia Maklenburg and Clare Courtney, with Maklenburg providing three RBI.

Regional action
Tuesday, July 6, the Trojans will travel to Plainfield to battle Nashua-Plainfield in first-round Class 1A Region 6 at 7 p.m. A win for Turkey Valley will put the Trojans on the road again, this time to Allison, to battle North Butler Wednesday, July 7, at 7 p.m.
