Trojans end year with WV

The Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team ran into a senior-laden team in the Class 1A District 6 semifinal Thursday night, falling to Wapsie Valley, 65-35, on the road.
The Trojans ended the year 12-11. Wapsie Valley takes a 17-5 record against Edgewood-Colesburg (20-3) today, Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Starmont.

The Trojans ended the year 12-11. Wapsie Valley takes a 17-5 record against Edgewood-Colesburg (20-3) today, Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Starmont.
Turkey Valley fell behind early Thursday night and couldn’t recover. The Trojans were outscored 14-10 in the first quarter. Wapsie Valley extended the lead in the second to make it 31-17 at halftime.
Leading the way offensively with eight points was Noah Hanson to go along with eight rebounds. Oliver Schmitt came off the bench for seven points, three steals and two boards, while Garrett Kurtenbach added seven points. Dylan Reicks provided six points and eight rebounds. Calvin Bodensteiner connected for five points and grabbed three rebounds and two steals. The last two points were had by Braylen Byrne.
The Trojans will be a veteran squad again next year as they graduate two starters in Garrett Kurtenbach and Dylan Reicks, while a host of juniors will be back from one more season.
