The Turkey Valley baseball team (2-5, 2-0 UIC) closed out last week with a pair of non-conference matchups as the Trojans took on Wapsie Valley and Oelwein.
On the home field
After picking up a pair of UIC wins at home Tuesday, the Trojans were back at it Wednesday as they hosted Wapsie Valley (5-5), falling 11-4.
Two big innings for WV cost the Trojans seven runs as the visiting Warriors stole four bases in the opening frame to plate four runs. TV quickly responded with three of their own on a Treyton Hulbert sac fly and a Noah Hanson double. The visitors extended their lead in the third with three additional runs and continued to pull away in the fourth and fifth frames.
“I thought our young guys on the mound did a good job to keep us in the game. We have to find ways to make a few more plays on defense,” said Coach Dan Stepan.
Climbing the hill for TV were Chase Hayek and Oliver Schmitt, combining for seven strikeouts. Hanson had two hits and two RBI to lead the Trojans.

At Oelwein Thursday
On the road Thursday, the difference between a win and a loss came down to the 10 walks the Trojans issued to Oelwein (1-6) and the four hit batters. In the end, TV gave up a 9-6 advantage in the bottom of the seventh frame, to fall 10-9.
Calvin Bodensteiner was saddled with the pitching loss, giving up four runs on two hits and six walks. Also on the mound for TV were Kalvin Langreck and Garrett Kurtenbach. Dylan Reicks had the lone extra-base hit, while Bodensteiner and Caleb Kurtenbach drove in two runs each.
