Trojans impound Wildcats 3-0

By Becky Walz,

The Turkey Valley volleyball team (1-2, 0-0 UIC) has its first tally in the win column after defeating Riceville (2-3) at home Tuesday night 3-0. Set scores were 25-20, 25-17 and 25-14.
“It was exciting to see our team come together and watch everyone contribute to our win,” said Coach Tammy Vrzak. “Josie (Weber) did an outstanding job of mixing up the attacks to keep Riceville second-guessing where the attack was coming from.”
As a team, the Trojans had 20 kills in 83 attack attempts, 62 digs, 21 assists, four total blocks and four aces.
Josie Weber served 18-for-20 with two aces, dished out 19 assists and had 10 digs in the contest. Kourtney Schmidt had six kills, four digs and served 4-for-6. Junior Brianna Busta had five kills and one dig. Adriana Tiedt was there for three kills, 13 digs and had an 8-for-13 serving mark. Producing three kills and serving 15-for-15 was Jacqlyn Schmitt. Defensively, Halle Weber led the way for the Trojans with 19 digs.
Next up for Turkey Valley is the Crestwood tournament Saturday, Sept. 11, at 9 a.m.
