The Turkey Valley girls’ basketball team (9-4, 7-3 UIC) are back in the groove after winning its two games earlier this week over Clayton Ridge and North Fayette Valley, both on the road.
Back at it
The Trojans returned to the hardwood Monday after weather postponed Friday’s game with Clayton Ridge (3-12, 2-9 UIC). Playing on the road, TV caged the Eagles, 48-28.
The Red and White were able to get out to a quick start to lead 24-10 heading into the locker room and maintained their force throughout the second half.
“Guttenberg is always a tough place to play, and Clayton Ridge always brings great intensity and hustle. We were able to get out to a quick start and maintain the advantage we had throughout the second half, but the Eagles made it difficult the whole way. Jacqlyn (Schmitt) powered her way down low, and our defense held up well, but we did get out of position at times and put them at the line. Fortunately, they did not shoot well from the charity stripe,” said Coach Carla Nymeyer.
Shouldering much of the offensive duties were Kara Reicks and Jacqlyn Schmitt with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Reicks also provided three boards, three assists and three steals, while Schmitt had four rebounds, three assists, two seals and two blocks.

Down to the wire
The Trojans picked up their second road win in two days Tuesday over North Fayette Valley (8-4, 7-4 UIC) in West Union 56-47.
TV opened up a lead in the first 13-10 and never relinquished the advantage as it built the advantage to 30-20 at the break as Hailey Elsbernd and Mariah Throndson took advantage of the looks they had in the second period to knock down some shots. NFV scratched away at the Trojans’ lead in the second half, pulling to with six, but TV responded and held on for the win.
“This was a great conference road win,” said Coach Nymeyer. “NFV’s strategy was to disrupt defensively and try to limit our main scorers. Our girls held their composure and responded well.”
Jacqlyn Schmitt was a workhorse inside, not letting anyone slow her down as she recorded a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Kara Reicks was also hot on the floor with 13 points, five boards, three assists and three steals.
