Trojans provided balanced attack on Pirates

Going on the road in conference action, the Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team (5-3, 4-3 UIC) took care of host Postville (0-8, 0-7 UIC) Tuesday night, 67-37.

Going on the road in conference action, the Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team (5-3, 4-3 UIC) took care of host Postville (0-8, 0-7 UIC) Tuesday night, 67-37.
The Trojan offense was energized from the get-go, steamrolling over the Pirates 18-7 in the first period. By halftime, TV was on top 35-21 and kept the momentum flowing in the third period, outscoring Postville 18-9 to lead 53-30 with eight minutes remaining and keep the game in their hands.
“We had good energy with balanced scoring inside and out,” pointed out Coach John Izer. “Lots of kids logged big minutes in this game. We had some good practices during the break and tweaked a few things for more balance in this game.”
Leading the way for TV with 17 points apiece were Dylan Reicks and Garrett Kurtenbach. Both were active all over the floor with G. Kurtenbach nabbing seven boards, five assists and three steals, while Reicks had six boards and three steals. Also, in double figures was Calvin Bodensteiner with 10 points to accompany six rebounds and three blocks.
Turkey Valley’s next action is Tuesday, Jan. 11, at home versus MFL MarMac.
