Trojans take care of Eagles, 54-27

By Becky Walz,

Things looked good Friday night for the Turkey Valley girls’ basketball team (2-1, 1-1 UIC) as the Trojans defeated Clayton Ridge (1-2, 1-2 UIC) at home, 54-27.
After a scoreless opening two minutes, the Trojans broke the ice on the basket to take a 13-7 lead when the first quarter was complete. TV limited the Eagles’ offense in the second frame to lead 30-16 at halftime. Following the break, the Red and White returned with its tough defense, allowing CR to score just two points in the third. In the end it was the Trojans doubling the Eagles’ effort, 54-27.
“It was great to see us score first and never look back as we consistently improved our lead and disrupted well defensively,” said Coach Carla Nymeyer. “I like the balanced scoring and the team effort put forth by all the players.”
Lead the offense charge with 13 points was Jalyssa Blazek. Also, in double figures was Jacqlyn Schmitt with 12. Adding to the balanced attack were Brianna Busta and Kara Reicks with eight, while Aubrey Hoffert provided seven.
The Trojans host North Fayette Valley tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 7) at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, Turkey Valley is at Kee for a 6:15 p.m. tip-off.
