Trojans thrash WC on the road

Opening the conference portion of the season, the Turkey Valley volleyball team (7-7, 1-0 UIC) bested (West Central (3-7, 0-1 UIC) Tuesday night on the road. Set scores were 25-20, 25-17 and 25-18.
“It was a good night for us as we took the first three games for the win.  The first game we had an 8-point deficit at one time, it was awesome to watch the girls keep their composure and fight back for the win,” said co-coaches Tammy Vrzak and Jackie Novotny. “Clare Courtney did a great job digging tonight as Kourtney Schmidt was hot on the serving line to bring us victory.”
TV had 27 kills on the night, led by Adrian Tiedt with 10 to go with 12 digs. Brianna Busta was another force at the net for the Trojans with six kills, while Josie Weber handed out 26 assists. Courtney had a team-high 24 digs and was 11-for-14 at the service line. Halle Weber provided another 13 digs. Schmidt had a 15-for-18 serving mark, along with four kills and five digs.
The Trojans host Clayton Ridge Thursday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m., and will vie for the title at the Dunkerton tourney Saturday, Sept. 25, at 9 a.m. Next week’s competitions will begin at home Tuesday, Sept. 28, versus South Winn.
