Putting up a good effort Monday the Turkey Valley baseball team (5-12, 5-7 UIC) fell to Waukon but bounced back to thrash North Fayette Valley at home Tuesday night.

Out of the league
It was a back-and-forth juggernaut Monday in Waukon before Turkey Valley fell to the Indians (6-12) in non-conference action, 4-3.
An error by Waukon allowed TV leadoff batter Russell Nieman the opportunity to score the first run of the game after he stole second and was driven home by Caleb Kurtenbach’s single. Braylen Byrne then connected for a singled that scored Oliver Schmitt, who had walked earlier in the first inning. Waukon cut the lead to 2-1 in the second before Jayden Rausch crossed home plate in the fourth. A pair of Indian doubles eventually evened the score in the bottom of the fourth, 3-3, and Waukon took the lead and win in the sixth with a pair of singles.

TigerHawks shot down
“It was a nice to get back on the winning track as we played well in all phases of the game,” said Coach Dan Stepan of the Trojans’ 8-1 win over North Fayette Valley (1-14, 1-12 UIC) Tuesday night in Jackson Junction.
Sending eight to the plate, TV jumped on the board in the first as Byrne’s single drove in Logan Busta and Schmitt. Nieman added a run in the second and a three-run fourth pushed the Trojans ahead 6-0. NFV managed to get a run in the fifth only to watch TV get two in the sixth on a Schmitt double and singles by Kurtenbach and Byrne to secure the win.
Combining for 10 hits in the contest, the Trojans had four senior players with a multi-hit game: seniors Schmitt, Holthaus, Kurtenbach and Byrne.
