By Becky Walz,
If it had not been for a tough fifth frame, the outcome for the Turkey Valley baseball team (5-14, 4-8 UIC) could have been different at Clayton Ridge/Central (5-13, 4-8 UIC) Tuesday night as the Trojans dropped the contest, 6-3.
Garrett Kurtenbach got TV on the board in the second when he smashed the ball over the left field fence. CR-C retaliated in the bottom half of the same frame on a single, sac bunt and a double to knot the score 1-1.
After leaving runners stranded on base in the third and fourth frame, Trojan miscues in the fifth, allowed the WarEagles to plate five unearned runs to take a 6-1 lead.
TV battled back in the sixth to cut the score in half as Carson Busta and Kalvin Langreck scored on an Oliver Schmitt hit, but the comeback was cut off there.
Kalvin Langreck threw 4-2/3 innings, striking out six. On the mound in relief was Calvin Bodensteiner.
The Trojans had four hits in the contest, two by G. Kurtenbach, including his homer. Langreck pounded out a double, while Schmitt had a pair of singles.
