By Becky Walz,
Facing tough competition to open the week, the Turkey Valley baseball team (5-11, 5-5 UIC) dropped three games.
Against the Hawks
Monday the Trojans fell in the two-game series to UIC leader Kee High (15-5, 8-0 UIC) at home, 5-0 and 17-2.
Turkey Valley mustered eight hits combined in the double header, while the Hawks tagged 17 balls.
In the opener, the Trojans kept the Hawks in check for much of the contest after allowing Kee to score once in the first. The bulk of the damage was done in the top of the seventh frame as the Hawks were issued three walks, had a hit batsman and connected for two doubles to plate four runs and claim victory.
Rapping out hits for TV were Noah Hanson, Calvin Bodensteiner and Kalvin Langreck. It was Langreck suffering the loss on the hill with three strikeouts.
“This was a good high school baseball game and we had chances, but couldn’t capitalize when we needed to,” said Coach Dan Stepan.
In game two, nine errors proved costly for the Trojans, not allowing the home team the opportunity to fight back for the victory.
Kee had two six-run innings, while TV scored two runs in the fifth frame on three hits, including back-to-back doubles by Noah Hanson and Dylan Reicks. Other Trojans tagging the ball for hits were Langreck and Oliver Schmitt. The loss went to Hanson on the mound, while Russell Nieman and Treyton Hulbert also threw for TV.

More UIC action
Playing their third conference game in two days, the Trojans came up short versus North Fayette Valley (5-10, 4-5 UIC) Tuesday, 9-5.
“We came out a little flat and got ourselves in a hole,” said Coach Stepan. “I thought Oliver Schmitt came in to pitch and game us some quality innings. We just need to find a way to string some hits together.”
TV fell behind 4-1 early and couldn’t come back, despite plating another run in the third and three in the bottom of the seventh.
