Competing in New Hampton for the second time in less than a week, the Turkey Valley girls track and field team showed improvement in gathering 31 points Monday night. The Trojans finished seventh in the team standings as Wapsie Valley ran away with the team title, collecting 145 points.
The best Trojan finish came early as the 4×800 relay crossed the finish line second in 11:48.07. Members of the runner-up relay were Bella Stika, Layni Schuchhardt, Kinsey Reicks and Hazel Nieman.
Stika, a freshman, added two bronze medals to her night as well. She posted a time of 5:40.80 in the 1500-meter run for individual bronze. Stika also anchored the 4×200 relay to third in 2:00.96, with Ryann Schmitt, Reicks and Nieman on the oval with her.
The Turkey Valley girls’ and boys’ track teams will be on the track at Kee Thursday, April 18, at 4:30 p.m. Next week will begin at Sumner-Fredericksburg Monday, April 22, at 4:30 p.m.
