With the Upper Iowa Conference meet a week away, the Turkey Valley boys’ track team scoped out some of the competition Thursday, competing at Clayton Ridge.
In the eight-team meet, the Trojans finished fourth with 76 points. MFL MarMac narrowly grabbed the title with 150 over Sumner-Fred who garnered 146 points.
The Trojans had one individual and two relays take gold. Junior Marcus Herold sent the shot put 42 feet 4 inches for the win. The distance medley relay had the top time of 3:58.13. Joining their talents for the win were Herold, Chase Hayek, Noah Hanson and Kalvin Langreck. Not to be outdone, the 4×400 raced around the oval in 3:51.96. Members of the winning quartet were Burke Busta, Hanson, Hayek and Langreck.
The sprint medley foursome of Troy Schmitt, Herold, Hanson and Langreck crossed the finish line in 1:42.88 to claim the runner-up spot.
Rounding out the top three finishes for the Trojans was Langreck in the 200-meter dash (23.88) and the 4×800 relay (9:48.11) of Hayek, Calvin Bodensteiner, B. Busta and Ryan Franzen.

The Trojans finished the week at the Starmont boys’ invitational, finishing with 39 points in ninth place. Earning 123 points, Denver was crowned the team champion.
One event won gold for Turkey Valley as the 4×800 relay broke the tape in 8:50.29.
Individually, Marcus Herold gave the Trojans points in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet 9.5 inches, good for fourth place. Two relays — the 4×100 (47.78) and 4×200 (1:40.78) — also garnered fourth place finishes.

The Trojans finished the regular season at the annual South Winn invite Monday. Now the focus shifts to the postseason as TV will compete in the Upper Iowa Conference meet Thursday, May 6, at North Fayette Valley in West Union at 4 p.m.
