TV boys outlast Clayton Ridge

By Becky Walz,

Defending its home court, the Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team (2-1, 1-1 UIC) raced out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Clayton Ridge (1-1, 1-1 UIC) Friday night, 47-40.
Scoring the first five points of the game, Garrett Kurtenbach pushed the Trojans out front 11-6. TV matched its effort from the opening period to hold on to a 22-16 lead at halftime. G. Kurtenbach once again opened the second half with a trey before TV went on a seven-minute scoring drought. Carson Busta sandwiched the Eagles’ 10-points in with a shot from beyond the arc to allow the Trojans to maintain a 28-26 advantage with eight minutes to play. In the final period, TV was back on track, pouring in 19 points for the win.
“We had our legs back after the back-to-back games Monday and Tuesday,” noted Coach John Izer. “I told the boys that defense and rebounding would be huge. I thought we played hard. It was a very physical game and we matched them. Home court wins are big with the balance in the conference.”
TV had a fairly balanced offensive night, led by G. Kurtenbach’s 18 points to go with six rebounds. Busta and Dylan Reicks provided eight apiece, while

Chase Hayek added five. With four each were Noah Hanson and Calvin Bodensteiner. Hanson topped the assist column with four, while Bodensteiner came away with four steals.
