TV capital campaign to assist FFA and athletics

By Becky Walz,

The Turkey Valley Community School District is spearheading a capital campaign to raise funds for a two-fold purpose. The goal of the capital campaign is to raise $650,000.
To date, TVSD has raised 250,000, including $24,000 in grants. The school board provided $75,000, as well as $76,000 from the Athletic Boosters, for the projects already completed for softball complex improvements as well as easily accessible elevated football bleachers. There is also a future commitment of $75,000 from the school board.

Greenhouse
The first project is for the construction of a greenhouse to enhance and strengthen ag education and the FFA program. The horticultural greenhouse learning facility will be 24’x48’x8’ and be located near the baseball field on school grounds. Future plans for the facility include students installing a watering system to produce plants for use in vegetable and flower production. Students will raise poinsettias and mums to sell, resulting in the development of numerous skills used in the horticulture industry.
FFA students and staff have applied for grants and have received substantial dollars but need finances to construct the greenhouse. Their goal is to have it constructed and in operation during the 2021–2022 school year.

Concessions, ADA restrooms
The second is to assist the Athletic Boosters fund the construction of updated concession stands with ADA compliant restrooms (Americans-with-Disabilities) as well as food serving facilities that meet health and safety standards. A new concession stand will serve both the football and baseball fields as well as house a utility room and upper crow’s nest for announcing. A new softball concession stand will add a storage room, a unisex/ADA compliant restroom and upper crow’s nest as well.
