It was a tough opponent for Turkey Valley girls’ basketball team (4-9, 3-7 UIC) Friday night with the Trojans falling 54-34 to MFL MarMac (10-6, 10-2 UIC).
“We came out with a lot of energy and intensity and then things went sideways. This group is always going to give effort no matter what the situation is in the game,” said Coach Steve Hoffert.
Throughout the first eight minutes the Trojans kept up with the Bulldogs, trailing by three, 18-15. During the second frame, Turkey Valley led by one but the fatigue set in as MFL MarMac led 35-23 at the half. The visitors won the second half as well, outscoring TV 19-12 for the win.
Ten Trojans scored at least two points with Addison Steinlage putting up a team-high seven points. With five points apiece were Layni Schuchhardt and Mariah Throndson. Freshman Bella Stika led the team off the rim with five rebounds, following by Haylee Hanson with four.
Turkey Valley played at Crestwood Monday and are on the road again tonight (Tuesday, Jan. 23) at West Central. Thursday, Jan. 25, the Trojans will host an inter-state game against Spring Grove at 6 p.m.
