TV girls top Warriors for second time

The Turkey Valley girls’ basketball team will enter the postseason with a 7-14 overall (6-10 UIC) record after topping South Winn (6-15, 5-11 UIC) Monday night at home 46-38.
The battle began with the Warriors putting up the first eight points before Trojan junior Delaney Busta was fouled on a putback on an offensive rebound with 5:53 left in the opening period. Turkey Valley finished on a 11-2 run to lead 14-10 with eight minutes complete. The Warriors hung close in the second, but it was the Trojans on top 23-19 at halftime.
In the third, the Trojans pushed ahead by two more 34-28 and led by as many as 12 in the fourth when Warrior Karissa Wenthold began firing the threes, hitting three in the closing 3:16 to bring South Winn back into single digits. But it was too late as the final buzzer rang out with the Trojans on top.

Numbers
Wenthold led all scorers in the game with 20 of South Winn’s 38 points. Alyssa Holthaus added nine in the Warrior effort.
For the Trojans Mariah Throndson put up a team-high 10 points. Coming off the bench to provide a spark and nine points was Bella Stika. Addison Steinlage put up seven, while Hazel Nieman added six.
