TV sails past the Kee High

By Becky Walz,

It took a gritty performance Friday night, but the Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team (10-4, 9-2 UIC) earned another win, knocking of Kee (6-8, 5-5 UIC) on the road 74-61.

The Trojan offense got off to a sluggish start with Garrett Kurtenbach aiding the effort with four treys to keep the score in check at 18-13 after one period. TV went on a run midway through the second quarter, going up 40-37 at the half. The Trojans held the Hawks to nine points in the third to lead 53-46 going into the final frame.

At halftime we talked about containing penetration and not gambling so much out front on the defensive end,” said Coach Chris Sullivan. “We will have to clean some things up moving forward and the kids know we need to clamp down on the defensive end for four quarters to keep taking big steps as a team.”

Garrett Kurtenbach and Kalvin Langreck both had a big night as they led TV in scoring with 24 and 20 points, respectively. Kurtenbach was also the man on the boards with 15 rebounds to give himself a double-double on the night. Calvin Bodensteiner and Noah Hanson both had 11 points to give the Trojans four scorers in double digits. Bodensteiner added seven caroms and three steals to the TV stat book.
