UIC split
Wednesday night, the Trojans traveled to West Union to split with North Fayette Valley (9-13, 9-3 UIC), winning 6-3 and dropping the nightcap 8-6.
In game one, the hosts took the early lead 2-0 in the opening frame. TV captured a run in the top of the second only to see the TigerHawks respond with one in the bottom of the inning. After several scoreless stanzas, the Trojan bats came alive scoring once in the fifth and two in each the sixth and seventh frames to score the victory, 6-3.
Josie Weber took the win in the pitcher’s circle with two strikeouts. The Trojans had 10 hits in the contest with Maici Weber going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and one RBI. J. Weber had two doubles, drove in a run and stole four bases. Olivia Snyder was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
The nightcap began with NFV pushing five runs across home plate in the bottom of the first inning. The Red and White cut the lead to one in the top of the fourth and tied the score 5-5 in the fifth, before the TigerHawks blasted out three more runs. One run in the seventh wasn’t enough for the Trojans to overcome the deficit.
Of the Trojans’ 12 hits, M. Weber knocked out a double and a pair of singles. Brianna Busta also had an extra-base hit. The loss went to J. Weber in almost six innings of work.
