The momentum pendulum was constantly in motion Thursday night as the Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team (6-5, 4-4 UIC) made the short trek to Tripoli (5-6), outlasting the Panthers in overtime, 53-44.

The momentum pendulum was constantly in motion Thursday night as the Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team (6-5, 4-4 UIC) made the short trek to Tripoli (5-6), outlasting the Panthers in overtime, 53-44.
On the board first, the Trojans claimed an 11-8 advantage after the first eight minutes. Swinging the momentum in its favor, Tripoli outscored TV 11-6 in the second quarter to lead 19-17 at the break. Back in form to start the second half, the Trojans were back on top in the third, 31-25. The gap closed in the final quarter as the Panthers knotted the score at 42, forcing the squads to continue playing. In overtime, the Trojans broke through to defeat Tripoli, 53-44.
“This was a tough game that resulted in an overtime win,” said Coach John Izer. “It’s nice to get these close grind it out games once in a while. The boys played hard made plays at end they had to make.”
Three Trojans were in double figures, but it was senior Garrett Kurtenbach with the hot hand, knocking down 20 points to go with eight rebounds and five steals. Noah Hanson had 11 points and two assists, while Calvin Bodensteiner nailed 10 points, grabbed seven boards and dished out four assists. Providing seven points and six rebounds was Dylan Reicks.
The UIC battles continue this week at North Fayette Valley Tuesday, Jan. 18, and at home versus Kee High Friday, Jan. 21.
